The history of tank-containers and ISO containers

Large tank containers of this type were first used in America in the mid 1950’s, alongside the traditional method of moving cargo by ship. This new method meant that it wasn’t necessary to unload the cargo before putting onto the ship, which therefore saved a great deal of time and meant less people were needed in the transportation process. At the start of the 1960’s, container sizes were standardised according to international standard ISO, which is why we now use an ISO frame. Each corner of the container was designed with a special fitting to allow a more comfortable grip during loading.
